Finding a thoughtful gift for a loved one can be hard, especially when they have everything they want (and probably more handmade coffee mugs that say “World’s Best Grandma!” than they could ever need). But if your cherished grandparent has a hobby like gardening—or if they’ve been considering taking up something new—well then, now you’re walking down Easy Gift Giving Street.

We’ve rounded up 15 thoughtful, useful, and practical garden-related gifts for the maternal figure in your life.

GARDEN SHIRTS MAKE GREAT GARDENING GIFTS

We all love a good graphic tee, but if your grandma is anything like most of us, they’re not really something she would buy for herself.

These garden-themed shirts are super soft and lots of fun. You can choose from several different colors so your grandma can represent her favorite hobby in style.

A HORI HORI KNIFE IS ONE OF THE TOP GARDEN TOOLS

A  hori hori knife is an essential tool for any avid gardener. Basically three tools wrapped into one, it makes hard work feel easy. You can use the serrated edge to saw through thick stems, the stainless steel blade to dig a compact hole, and the markings to know how deep or far apart you’re planting something. Grandma will definitely appreciate having this super practical tool in her tool belt!

A GARDEN APRON MAKES THE PERFECT GIFT

A gardening apron will protect your grandma’s clothes while she’s working and keep her hands free to prune, water, and harvest. She can stash hand tools, seed packets, weeds she’s pulled, and fruits and veggies she’s harvested in the apron’s pockets.

My favorite apron is the Roo gardening apron, which features a super handy large pouch in the front that opens at the touch of a button. It comes in several bright colors and is machine washable. If you’re looking for the perfect Grandparent’s Day, Mother’s Day gift or Christmas present, you can check out our full list of gardening apron recommendations here.

A GARDEN TRELLIS WILL LAST IN GRANDMA’S GARDEN FOR YEARS TO COME

Picture your grandma looking out from her kitchen window to see her favorite vining plants wrapped around her new trellis and thinking of you. A beautiful panel, obelisk, or arch garden trellis turns every day into a special occasion for your loved one. Nothing will make her garden feel like Grandma’s special spot quite like a beautiful and durable trellis that matches her style and helps her grow her favorite vines vertically.

(If your budget is tight, this is a great gift for the whole family to go in on together. We can ship for FREE right to Grandma’s house, but you’ll definitely want to grab a buddy to help you install the trellis for her.)

GARDEN GLOVES MAKE EASY GARDEN GIFTS

My favorite gardening gloves from Bamboo make inexpensive and practical gardening gifts. They’re super comfortable and protect your hands from thorns and thistles. They come in four different sizes so you can find the perfect fit for your gift recipient. I recommend bringing grandma a nice, new pair as a just-because gift or tossing a pair into a little gift basket filled with other gardening tools.

THIS SEED STARTING KIT IS A GREAT OPTION FOR A GRANDMA WHO LOVES TO DRINK TEA

Grandma can grow her own herbs for tea with this beautifully packaged garden seed starting kit by Mountain Valley Seed Company. It comes with everything she needs to grow her own herbs from seed in a windowsill or on her kitchen countertop, including drip trays, seed trays, humidity domes, labels, soil pucks, and step-by-step growing instructions, plus seeds for basil, chamomile, sage, rosemary, thyme, echinacea, peppermint, yarrow, and more.

A HARVEST BASKET MAKES A UNIQUE GARDEN GIFT

A harvest basket is an essential tool of the trade, so if the gardener in your life doesn’t have one, they need one STAT! Your grandma will think of you every time she arranges her flowers, herbs, fruits, and veggies into her new basket at harvest time.

For a practical basket that’s easy to clean (it actually acts as both basket and colander so she can wash off her produce before bringing it inside), I recommend this garden harvest basket, which comes in four great color options. For a unique basket, head to your nearest secondhand shop or antique store to find an old wicker basket with a flat bottom.

YOUR GARDENING GRANDMA NEEDS HER OWN GARDEN TOOL BELT

If a full apron’s not really her thing, then your grandma needs her own garden tool belt to make sure she has all she needs when she heads out to her garden. A tool belt that goes around the waist is ideal for gardeners with short torsos who might feel swallowed up by a full apron. This stylish leather tool belt will have your grandma feeling like she’s the leading lady in an old Western, while this utility pouch will send the vibe she’s ready to tackle whatever comes her way.

A GARDEN NOTEBOOK IS THE PERFECT GARDENING GIFT

Whether she’s a seasoned gardener or just starting out, she needs a garden notebook to jot down planting plans, take notes on each growing season, observe the weather, and keep track of watering schedules for her indoor plants. This garden notebook is both practical and stylish and will help her stay organized and inspired to grow some more.

GARDEN BOOTS MAKE PRACTICAL GIFTS

Help your grandma stay cozy and warm when she’s spending time out in the garden by gifting her a pair of waterproof garden boots. These mid-calf boots come in a beautiful floral pattern and are slip-resistant so you don’t have to worry about your loved one venturing out on rainy days.

GARDEN BULBS MAKE THOUGHTFUL GIFTS

If your grandma loves flowers like dahlias, daffodils, tulips, or anemones, garden bulbs would make the perfect gift. Grab a package of her favorite flower bulbs, some potting soil, and a pot that’s at least 12 inches across and 12 inches deep, with a good drainage hole. For a personal touch, paint the flower pot or have your children decorate the outside with their handprints before planting it up so your gift recipient feels all the love.

SEEDS MAKE THE BEST GIFTS

Seeds to the gardener are like books to the reader—you can never have too many of them! Seeds are a great way to encourage your loved one to try growing something new or get together with friends for a little seed swap. Some of my favorite sources for non-GMO/organic garden seeds are Renee’s Garden, Botanical Interests, High Mowing Seeds, and True Leaf Market.

If you want to take this gift to the next level, then look at plastic photo boxes as a way to help her keep all those seeds organized. I have two of these for my garden and they are so handy.

GARDEN SCISSORS MAKE A GREAT ADDITION TO HER HARVEST SUPPLIES

Grandma’s garden will stay nice and tidy with these multi-use garden shears. These scissors can cut rope, pierce small holes, open bottles, and even be taken apart and used as sharp knives. Grandma won’t have to ask Grandpa if he’s got his pocketknife handy anymore. I recommend grabbing a pair of these scissors and arranging them in a gift basket with some other garden implements.

THE GARDEN GIFT THAT WILL MAKE HER FEEL LIKE SHE HAS A GREEN THUMB

A GrowOya is a great way to help her keep her plants watered without having to venture outside every day and lug around a huge watering can. An oya uses ancient technology to let plants take up as much water as they need through their roots, preventing both over- and under-watering. All Grandma has to do is refill the terracotta container every couple of days.

A GARDEN STOOL IS THE PERFECT PRESENT FOR AN AGING GARDENER

This is one of those great gift ideas that’s also super practical, especially if Grandma has an in-ground vegetable garden or a well-tended flower bed. This garden stool/kneeler has a foam pad to protect her knees while kneeling. It folds up and comes with handles for easy carrying to and from the garden. It can also be flipped over to use as a little bench. Its metal frame is lightweight but can handle up to 300 lbs.

I hope you can share the love of gardening for Grandparent’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthday’s, Christmas, or special occasion with one of these unique gifts. Ensure your loved one appreciates the beauty of nature while also feeling loved and cherished by giving her something to celebrate her favorite activity.

If you’ve got another great gift idea, share it in the comments below so our little LGS community can be inspired!
