What to Grow in OCTOBER in Central Texas

Cilantro

Perfect in pots or containers and you can even bring them indoors during harsh freezing temperatures.

Swiss Chard

Swiss Chard is a work horse in the garden. This is one leafy green that can take some heat and doesn't mind cool temps as well.

Carrots

Nothing beats home grown carrots! Start planting carrot seeds mid to late September. Plant every two weeks through October.

Broccoli

If you haven't had home grown broccoli, then you are missing out. This is a favorite of mine that I grow ever year.

Cauliflower

Fall is a great time to grow cauliflower. There are several varities to grow including purple and cheddar colors.

Beets

Plant beets now to have some ready for Thanksgiving! Plant every two weeks through October.

Cabbage

For shorter winters choose cabbages that have fewer days to harvest (55-85 days) for best success.

Kale

Start kale by seed or buy from a nursery to plant and grow all fall and winter long.
