This month in Central Texas may bring spring showers and warmer weather, but it’s also the time to plant many of the quintessential garden veggies we all hold so dear in our gardener hearts.
We’re officially past any threat of frost for the greater Austin area and have entered our first of two warm seasons for the year. That means it’s tomato time!

Tips for planting in April:
Add a good layer of compost before planting anything new.
Keep soil moist for proper seed germination.
Water new plants in well, and if your soil is extra dry, water the whole garden before planting.
Watch them grow each day!
Also, many of your warm season plants need pollination to be productive, so make sure you add some flowers to your kitchen garden to attract beneficial insects like bees and butterflies. Explore 10 of our favorite flowers to grow alongside our fruits and veggies.
